Damage and Customer Protection Policy for Self-Service Customers

Learn More

At Friendly Laundromat (FL), we work hard to maintain a clean, reliable environment and well-maintained equipment for your self-service laundry needs. However, when using our machines, customers are fully responsible for monitoring their own laundry and using the equipment properly. This policy outlines responsibilities, best practices, and our procedures in the rare event of a reported issue.

Customer Responsibilities

To ensure the safety and proper laundering of your garments, customers are responsible for:

  • Inspecting machines before use, including:
    • Checking washer soap dispensers for leftover detergent, bleach, or softener.
    • Inspecting the washer drum and dryer drum for debris, ink, crayons, or foreign objects.
  • Emptying all pockets before placing clothes in washers or dryers.
  • Not overloading machines or using excessive detergent or other products.
  • Clearly identifying the machines they are using (e.g., taking a picture or noting the machine number).
  • Remaining on-site or regularly monitoring their laundry during cycles.

Friendly Laundromat is not responsible for damage caused by:

  • Detergents or substances left behind by prior users.
  • Items left in pockets (lipstick, pens, gum, etc.).
  • Color bleeding, shrinkage, or damage to delicate or dry-clean-only garments.
  • Improper loading or machine misuse by customers.
  • Other customer interactions (e.g., laundry being removed by another patron).

Reporting Machine-Related Issues

If you believe your laundry has been damaged due to a malfunction of one of our machines:

  • You must notify our staff immediately before removing your laundry from the machine.
  • Our staff will:
    • Collect and bag the full load of affected items for review, documenting the machine used.
    • Collect your contact information.
  • We reserve the right to inspect the machine and affected items to determine the cause and assess responsibility.
  • Claims made after laundry has been removed from the machine and taken off-site cannot be accepted.

Abandoned Items

Any laundry left behind at the laundromat at closing time may be bagged and set aside as a courtesy. However:

  • We do not guarantee retention of any unclaimed laundry.
  • Items left behind may be discarded at any time, and we will not be liable for loss.
  • If we do retain your items, they will be held for up to 14 days.
